Southern Halt is home to luxury holiday lodges in East Cornwall. A 22-acre hideaway offers stunning panoramic views from the lodges, many of which also include a hot tub.
The Charteroak holiday lodges at Southern Halt are aptly named according to their location in the park. We stayed in the Horizon View area, offering us amazing views of the horizon. There is also the Meadow Retreat area, Faraway Fields and Southern Place.

Getting To Southern Halt Park
After booking your holiday lodge at Southern Halt, you are also provided with the gate code and your lodge access code. The address for Southern Halt is Havett Road, Dobwalls, Liskeard, Cornwall, PL14 6HB.
Depending on which direction you are arriving at the park from, we discovered the sat nav did a good job of taking us to the entrance. The easiest way in for us was via Liskeard as this area was a little more built up and the roads a little wider.
Southern Halt Park Facilities
If you are looking for a holiday park with lots of facilities, then Southern Halt may not be for you. The holiday park offers peaceful surroundings and your own personal hot tub to relax in.
Whilst there is no on site restaurant or shop, there are plenty of facilities in close proximity to the park.
At their sister site named Stonerush Lakes, you will find the Old Mill bar and restaurant. This is a 15 minute drive away, and you are welcome to book a table for dinner etc during your stay.
Southern Halt Park Lodge Facilities
There are both two and three bedroom lodges available to stay in at Southern Halt Park. Our lodge was a three bedroomed lodge with a hot tub staying in the Horizon View area of the park.
Our lodge had a good sized master bedroom with dressing room area and en-suite bathroom. There were also two twin bedrooms, a lounge, dining and kitchen open plan area. The lounge area was quite small for the maximum six guests staying in the lodge, however across the open plan living area, there would have been ample room.
In the kitchen, there was everything included for a comfortable self catering stay in Cornwall. Also included was a welcome pack with a bin bag, washing up liquid, dishwasher tablets and a tea towel. There was even a pint of milk in the fridge.
In the outside areas, our lodge included a large decking area with outdoor seating. We found all the cushions in a cupboard in the hallway along with cleaning supplies, clothes horse and brooms etc.
The hot tub was in a clever location to the side of the decking. It was made very private from the lodge next door by a clever grassy rockery area that went high enough to never feel like you had next door neighbours.
Southern Halt Park Location
Staying at Southern Halt Park, we realised was in a rural setting with amazing views across the countryside. It was also close enough however to be able to access many great locations within around a half an hour drive.
During our stay we visited the Eden Project which was about a 45 minute drive. We also went to the Lost Gardens Of Heligan which were around 30 minutes away.
The beaches of Looe, Seaton and Talland were around a 30 minute drive away, which we found perfect for exploring without having to drive too far.
For shopping and eating, the town of Liskeard is only a short drive away, and we found a charming pub named The Highwayman just a few minutes drive away. The pub has a large beer garden and served a nice meal on the one night we visited.
There is also a large Morrisons supermarket around a 10 minute drive away. This was perfect for us to stock up on essentials before arriving at the lodge.
Our Stay At Southern Halt Holiday Park
We booked a midweek stay at Southern Halt in a dog friendly lodge which was named 9 Horizon View.
On arrival after stocking up at Morrisons and stopping at the Highwayman pub for a quick drink, we accessed our lodge very quickly with the codes provided.
We noticed there were staff on site in the reception area, but unless we had a query, there was no need for us to actually go in and speak to anyone.
Our lodge was immaculately clean and had everything provided. There were even robes in the wardrobe which were perfect for getting in and out of the hot tub.
The outside view of our hot tub was definitely an amazing selling point. The view of the horizon was stunning, and even on a grey day it was lovely to sit out and admire the view. In fact this is what we did on the first evening as we waited for the hot tub to reach its temperature.
From our lodge, we noticed that the sun set to our left. If we were to stay again, I might be tempted to book a lower number in the Horizon View area to enjoy the sun setting in front of me from the hot tub.
Taking our dog with us on holiday meant our week was going to be a completely dog friendly week away in Cornwall. There are many dog friendly things to do in Cornwall as we very quickly discovered.
On our first full day, we spent the morning at The Lost Gardens of Heligan before finding a dog friendly seaside pub named The Ship Inn in St Austell. We were close to Pentewan beach which is a public beach but privately owned by Pentewan Sands Holiday Park.
Whilst this wasn’t a dog friendly beach, we took it in turns to enjoy a lovely walk along the white sands.
On our second full day we visited the dog friendly Seaton beach. This beach has a few facilities but the sand is very grainy and we found lots of flies buzzing around. I think this is a great beach for walking and enjoying the sea air rather than relaxing on.
During the afternoon, we visited the nearby National Trust Lanhydrock. We always carry our National Trust passes with us as you can always find a location to stop in and visit.
There were large woodland area and grass to be able to walk the dog, whilst we took it in turns to tour the house which was was very interesting. There is a very long walk down the drive from the car park to the house however. It just shows how affluent the family would have been.
On our final full day, we visit the Eden Project. When buying your entrance ticket to the Eden Project, you automatically get an annual pass. A return visit will definitely be on the cards for us.
The Eden Project is dog friendly in all areas aside from the Biomes. However there are plenty of places to sit and wait if you’re taking it in turns. Dog bowls are also readily available.
Our evenings (and early mornings for me) at the lodge were spent in the hot tub. It makes such a difference having a hot tub to be able to relax in. The fact we had amazing views made it even more special and relaxing.
Catering for Lola also wasn’t forgotten as the park was big enough to be able to wander around on lead walks and enjoy the views from across the park.
We had such an enjoyable stay at Southern Halt Holiday Park and would definitely return again in the future.
