Review: Story Book Dining At Artist Point

When I learned about the new Story Book Dining at Artist Point restaurant featuring Grumpy and selected members of the seven dwarfs, I knew this would be a meal we would definitely book.

Grumpy dwarf has always been one character at Walt Disney World that I have always wanted to meet but never been able to. He only appears in special party events such as Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party or Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party.

What Is Story Book Dining At Artist Point?

Story Book Dining at Artist Point is a character meal featuring Snow White, Grumpy, Dopey and the Evil Queen. The character meal experience began in December 2018, taking residence in Artist Point restaurant. This was previously the signature restaurant at Wilderness Lodge Resort.

Artist Point restaurant has been transformed into the enchanted forest. The theming has been done amazingly well, with the feeling of walking into the forest. There are trees on the ceiling, and leaf stands on the tables for your food to sit on.

Getting to Story Book Dining At Artist Point

There are a few ways to get to Artist Point in Wilderness Lodge depending on how you’re travelling. You could arrive by Lyft or Uber, or even a Minnie Van direct from your location.

If taking Disney transport, then you can catch a boat from Magic Kingdom which is the nearest Disney park., You can also take the Disney bus to Wilderness Lodge from any of the Disney Parks or Disney Springs.

Story Book Dining Menu

When you arrive and sit down for your character dining experience at Story Book Dining at Artist Point, you will be given a menu explaining how the meal works.

This is a three course part prix fixe menu where your appetizers and desserts are pre fix and brought out for everyone to share. You have a choice of a variety of different options for your entrée.

There are some great cocktails included in the menu choices at Story Book Dining, completely on par with the theming. I chose an enchanted apple which consisted of vodka, sour apple and white cranberry juice.

There was a lovely non alcoholic transformation potion which Abby loved. Lemonade and blue potion which turned the drink a different colour.

Appetizers

We were brought a choice of three different appetizers for everyone. to share. There was a take on Hunter’s pie which was actually a terrine with stone fruit preserve and flat bread. We also received Winter Squash bisque which was served in tiny cauldrons, and finally a Wicked Shrimp cocktail. The bisque has now changed to a mushroom bisque.

Abby loves her shrimp so we let her eat all three of these, and Hubby and I ate the Hunter’s Pie between us instead. This was a lovely take on terrine on toast that I would opt for as a starter in the UK.

The preserve was sweet but worked well with the terrine. We all loved the mini Winter Squash bisque and I would happily have eaten plenty more of this.

Entrées

The Core of the story entrées were chosen as we were seated. We were able to choose from a selection of six different entrées. Hubby chose the royal prime rib roast which came with horseradish mashed potatoes, hay smoked carrots and popover jus. He aid it was lovely.

I chose the Brother’s Grimm roasted chicken which came with confit potatoes, roasted Brussel sprouts, apples and chestnut butter. My chicken was cooked really well and there were plenty of potatoes and vegetables on my plate. I could barely finish it all.

Desserts

The desserts came out all together and we were presented with Miner’s treasure which is a sponge cake filled with gems (I think these were colourful coated chocolates such as Smarties), topped with buttercream icing and a chocolate dwarf hat.

We also had a fairy tale gooseberry pie and a poison apple which was a white chocolate mousse with a sour centre.

All the desserts were thankfully quite small in portion size. At this point in the meal, we could barely finish them, but we made a good dent in it. The gooseberry pie was a favourite from our table, followed by the miner’s treasure. This was quite a sweet cake dessert but just enough to prevent it from being too sickly.

The meal was finished off with the hunter’s gift to the Queen which arrived in a smoking box will popcorn and chocolate hearts. This was a great touch to the experience of the meal.

Gluten Free At Story Book Dining

One of our party is gluten-free and we were delighted with how well it was handled without making her feel like she had to have completely separate dinner. The main menu was discussed with our server and as she chose the Brother’s Grimm chicken option, nothing needed to be changed.

The appetizers and desserts arrived separately, however the choices were kept as similar as possible. Instead of Hunter’s pie, she received a meatless burger which was well received. The remaining appetizers were the same as the main choices.

The desserts that arrived were slightly different, We received a chia pudding in coconut milk in place of the miner’s treasure cake, and a different take on the gooseberry pie.

Character Interaction At Story Book Dining

The characters at Story Book Dining wander around during your meal experience to interact and pose for photos. The only exception to this is the Evil Queen who appears at her station and you are welcome to go and meet her at the end of your meal.

At intervals during the meal, music starts to play and Snow White, Grumpy and Dopey leave the tables they are visiting and start to dance around the room. This provides a great atmosphere with everyone clapping along to the music of the dwarfs.

We had some great interaction from all the characters and I was so happy to finally meet Grumpy. Both of the dwarfs in particular were in amazing character and spent plenty of time with us posing and making us laugh.

Our Experience

There was never any doubt I was going to book Story Book Dining as one of our meal choices for this trip. Despite the high cost of the restaurant at around $65 per adult, it works out amazing value if you’re on the Disney dining plan. The meal will cost you one table service credit (we paid $50 in gratuities for four adults).

We all enjoyed our time at Story Book Dining. The food was good, although I have eaten better food at Disney World. None of us went away with any complaints at all, and the experience alone is well worth the dining credit.
