It rained a lot during our first visit to Walt Disney World in 2014, and because of that we had to think on our feet and work out what to do when it rains. During our 2016 trip, rain didn’t affect us at all, only raining once on the second morning before we left the hotel room, and during our last evening when we were packing. Our 2017 trip however we are very likely to be affected by the rain again due to the time of year we are visiting.
Mickeys Philharmagic show in New Fantasyland Magic Kingdom is a 12 minute 4D show. The queue for the show is completely undercover so with queuing time and show time you could beat a quick Florida afternoon storm. We love Mickeys Philharmagic show and it’s a must see for plenty of giggles and a nice way to rest your feet at the same time as staying out of the rain.
The Festival Of The Lion King
One of my all time favourite shows in Animal Kingdom and possible Walt Disney World is the Festival Of The Lion King. A 30 minute show with some amazing acrobatics, show interaction, singing and dancing. It’s a must see. Whilst a Fastpass isn’t necessary for the show, you will enter via a shorter queue is you choose that option. The standby queue for Festival Of The Lion King is mostly undercover so if you spot a storm coming then it’s a good time to take shelter at the Harambe theatre in readiness for the next show (generally starting on the hour).
The Frozen Singalong at Hollywood Studios is a 30 minute show in a large theatre. A Fastpass isn’t necessary for this as you enter the same time through the same doors as the standby queue. The holding area for the show is completely undercover however you can only enter the area near the start time of the next showing. We really enjoyed Frozen Singalong and Miss A was having a great time singing along to all her favourite songs. The interaction and jokes are good for the adults as well.
Monsters Inc Laugh Floor
Monsters Inc Laugh Floor in Tomorrowland Magic Kingdom is a 10 minute show with the holding area completely undercover. You could stand in line for around 15 minutes so there is plenty of time to miss a storm if you see it arriving. Monsters Inc Laugh Floor is an audience participation show hosted by Mike where he needs to make the audience laugh to fill the tanks.
Soarin’ is a ride I haven’t made it onto yet as it was closed for refurbishment when we visited in 2016. I am looking forward to riding on our next visit. The beauty of Soarin’ is that whilst you may see long lines in the standby line if you’re attempting to avoid a rain storm, Soarin’ is located inside the Land Pavilion at Epcot. Also inside the Land is Sunshine Seasons, a quick service restaurant, Garden Grill restaurant, Living With The Land ride which takes you on a boat journey to see all the plants grown and used in the restaurants at Epcot. There will be something for everyone to stay dry out of the rain.
