Swimming with dolphins has always been a lifelong dream of mine. I didn’t really think I would ever be able to actually do it for one reason or another. When we booked to go to Walt Disney World in 2014, we also booked a day at Discovery Cove Orlando which included a dolphin swim.
This was such an amazing experience, one that will stay with me forever. Is Discovery Cove Orlando worth it in terms of price and value for money? If you’re thinking about visiting, here are 10 reasons to book Discovery Cove.

It’s All Inclusive
Wondering what’s included at Discovery Cove? Your day will be all-inclusive which includes lockers, sun cream, food, drink, wetsuits, towels, shower amenities and free parking. The only time you will need money is if you choose to purchase the merchandise on offer, or purchase a photo package.
How much does it cost to get into Discovery Cove?
Prices start at $149 for a day entry to Discovery Cove. If you want to add a dolphin swim onto this ticket then prices start from $199.
Discovery Cove Dolphin Swim
The Discovery Cove dolphin experience is something very special. You don’t have to book a dolphin swim to visit Discovery Cove, the option is available when booking your tickets. I talked more about our day at Discovery Cove in a separate blog post, but for me the dolphin swim was a huge highlight.
You also have the option of a deep water swim or a shallow water swim, which for less abled swimmers is a fantastic option. I didn’t think there was any difference between them.
Park Numbers Are Limited
Discovery Cove tickets are limited as the park limit their attendance numbers each day meaning you will never feel as though it is overcrowded. Dolphin swim times are allocated on a first come first serve basis when you check in in the morning, so if you want an early swim get there early! We never felt as though there were too many people about it was lovely.
What time should I get to Discovery Cove?
Breakfast is served from 7.15am. It’s recommended to arrive by 7.30am if you have activities booked for your visit.
It’s A Relaxing Day
If you have spent previous days rushing around the theme parks, then a day at Discovery Cove is very relaxing. From the lazy river, to laying on the ample sunbeds on the beach area, to swimming with the marine life, you will leave very relaxed. I know we did.
Plenty To Do
I challenge you to get bored at Discovery Cove. It’s not possible, there is so much to do. We spent ages floating around the lazy river, a lazy river that is so big there are many secret areas we discovered. You can feed the birds in the aviary, relax by the water, and watch the dolphins in their area.
If snorkelling is your things, then you can snorkel with rays and tropical fish in the Grand Reef, or even spot the playful otters in Wind Away river.
It’s A Whole Day Out
You won’t want to be leaving after half a day at Discovery Cove I can guarantee you. With all of the amenities mentioned above on offer you won’t be wondering what to do next.
Food And Drink
Part of the all-inclusive ticket price is the food and drink. There is so much choice on offer, from breakfast items, hot and cold, to lunch meals. There was salads, hot meals, cold meals, drinks, snacks through the day at kiosks including crisps, and even alcoholic beverages for over 21’s to enjoy as well as fountain drinks.
Nothing is too much trouble at Discovery Cove. The rest rooms were immaculate and everything was provided down to feminine sanitary items free of charge in the rest rooms. There was always staff around to answer questions and direct you if you needed help.
Something For Everyone
If you are travelling with a large group, you don’t all have to do the same thing, Discovery Cove really does provide something for everyone. Some of us like to lay on a lounger reading a book, whilst others are off snorkelling with the rays.
Your Discovery Cove ticket will also cover your entry into Seaworld and Aquatica. If you get the ultimate ticket then you will also have access to Busch Gardens too.
When you arrive at Discovery Cove you are issued a lanyard with your ID which also acts as your ticket into the other parks within a 14 day time frame. The additional entry to parks is unlimited so you can get amazing value for money with the Discovery Cove ticket packages.
Is Discovery Cove Orlando worth it? I think so yes.
