When is bluebell season in the UK? Bluebell season is between mid April through until late May, when you will be treated to a carpet of blue and purple.
As the bluebells are perennial, you’ll find them in the same place year after year when they pop up again. Finding beautiful bluebells in woods is a popular family activity during the Springtime. It’s a great excuse for a pretty walk in the UK’s woodlands.
Did you know it can take 5 years for a bluebell to grow from a seed. They are a delicate flower when grown, so if you are out searching for bluebells, take care not to trample through them, as they can be easily damaged.
Do you know the different between Spanish and English bluebells? The English bluebell (Hyacinthoides non-scripta) is a deep violet-blue, with tiny bell-shaped flowers that hang from the side. The Spanish bluebells are very similar but their flowers hang around the stem, which grows straight upright.

If you’re wondering where to see bluebells in Cheshire, then a visit to Combermere Abbey is a must. For five weeks between in April and May, on a Saturday and Sunday, you can book a morning or afternoon walk to see the bluebells.
The walk is around 2 miles in distance and take around an hour to complete. Dogs on leads are welcome, but the terrain isn’t suitable for pushchairs or wheelchairs.

There is a beautiful bluebell walk at Calke Abbey to discover. Walking through the Serpentine walk, you’ll be treated to a sea of blue. This is one of the popular bluebell walks in Derbyshire and can get very busy at times.

One of the most popular places to spot bluebells in Dorset is at Pamphill near Wimborne. There is a dedicated bluebell woods path through the woodland to protect the flowers during the Spring.
Also known as Abbott Street Copse, close to the Kingston Lacy estate, the new plantation was created in 2019 to protect the bluebells for many more years to come.
