If you have a dog, finding dog-friendly beaches in Somerset is a great way to enjoy scenic coastal walks while letting your furry friend run free. While we love the beautiful beaches in Dorset, we’ve recently explored some fantastic dog-welcoming beaches in Somerset—perfect for year-round adventures!
Beach visits aren’t just for summer—winter walks along the shore can be refreshing, and with seasonal dog restrictions lifted, your pup can roam freely for hours. Whether you’re after sandy stretches or rugged coastline, Somerset has plenty of options for you and your four-legged companion!
Doniford Beach
Address: 15 Doniford Rd, Watchet TA23 0TL
Facilities: The car park is quite hidden but available right next to the beach.
Doniford beach is right next door to Doniford Bay holiday park where we have stayed in the past. The beach is made up of mud and sand, with lots of rock pools dotted about.
If fossil hunting is of interest to you, then this is one of the best beaches in Somerset to make your discoveries. The beach is dog friendly all year round.
Minehead Beach
Address: Warren Rd, Minehead TA24 5SJ
Facilities: Deck chairs available to hire. Toilets and car parking nearby.
Minehead beach, also known as The Strand is very close to the popular holiday destination Butlins. The beach is mainly sand making it a great beach for dog walks in Somerset. There are some small areas that are formed with shingle and stone.
Dos are welcome on the main beach between the harbour and the golf course between October and April. However they are welcome all year around beyond the harbour and golf course.
The South West Coastal path begins in Minehead and travels in an anti clockwise direction to Poole in Dorset. I have talked about walking the south-west coastal path in Lulworth and Durdle Door in Dorset, something we do frequently.
Blue Anchor Bay
Address: Minehead, Somerset, TA24 5BG
Facilities: Parking, toilets and pubs nearby.

The beach is made up of sand and is popular with walkers. The beach is also very dog friendly, dogs are welcome all year round. I can imagine if you’re looking for a pet friendly holiday on the South Coast, then this would be a great option.

Dunster Beach
Address: Weston-super-Mare, TA24 6TH
Facilities: Toilets and car parking available
Dog friendly Somerset beaches can be very close to each other. Just a short walk from Minehead beach you can walk to Dunster Beach where dogs are welcome all year around. Around 2 miles in distance, the walk can be done purely on the beach or on the path next to the golf course.

Kilve Beach
Address: Bridgwater TA5 1EG
Facilities: large grassy area behind the beach perfect for picnics. Car parking available.
One of the more popular Somerset dog friendly beaches is Kilve beach. Located in Bridgewater, Somerset, it’s famous for fossil hunting and has plenty of rock pools to keep everyone entertained.
Kilve beach reminds me a little of Kimmeridge Bay in Dorset with its rock formations. Dogs are welcome on Kilve beach all year round.
Berrow Beach
Address: Berrow, Burnham-on-Sea TA8 2LW
Facilities: cafe and toilet facilities
Berrow beach is one of the larger beaches in Somerset that allow dogs. It spans for 6 miles between Burnham on Sea and Brean Down. The beach is made up of sand and mud flats and welcome dogs all year round.
Sand Bay
Address: Beach Road, Kewstoke, Weston Super Mare, North Somerset, BS22 9UR
Facilities: Car parking and toilets
Sand Bay is in North Somerset and made up of sand and shingle. There are no restrictions for dogs at any time of the year at Sand Bay and there are car parks along the length of the beach.

Porlock Weir Beach
Address: Porlock Weir Beach, Somerset, TA24 8PD
Facilities: Pay and Display car park with around 60 spaces and some disabled parking spots. There is also a cafe and toilet facilities.
Porlock Weir beach reminds me a little bit of Lulworth Cove in Dorset with it’s large shingle that makes up the beach. If you are walking part of the South West Coastal path in the area, then you can find yourself passing through Porlock Weir. Dogs are welcome on Porlock Weir beach all year round.
