Wow that Summer holidays went quickly didn’t it! It doesn’t seem like five minutes ago that we were looking forward to six weeks of no school routine. This was the first Summer holidays that we didn’t book any school holiday clubs for childcare, and with some strategic family visits, and annual leave from work, we managed really well.
As soon as school finished in July, it was time for Camp Bestival weekend. We enjoyed a lovely two days experiencing our first Camp Bestival which we hope to do again next year. The weather was glorious for the first two days of the festival, and in true British style turned for the last two days.
There was work for us grown ups in the first week of the holidays so a trip to Granny’s was on the cards for Abby. They always have great fun together and it finished the mid week with a cinema trip to Mama Mia 2 for myself and them. I really enjoyed Mama Mia 2 but I think I still prefer the first film.
Before the weather improved, we spent a particularly soggy morning walking the dog in a new to us place. We had discovered a lovely new wooded area not too far from our home. With plenty of windy paths, a stream and lots of forest, Lola really enjoyed the new smells.
During the second week of the holidays, I took annual leave and the weather was glorious again. We spent some time at Kingston Lacy National Trust one day, both of us taking our books and a picnic, we just enjoyed the sunshine and time lost in our books.
We also visited Mighty Claws Adventure Golf this week and tried their 18 hole mini golf course followed by a delicious pizza dinner with amazing milkshakes. This was great fun, and I can’t believe we haven’t visited before. We’ll definitely return one day.
During the third week, it was time for Abby to go off on her own adventure with her Granny. They spent the week at Butlins in Minehead and had a great time. There was more crazy golf, lots of swimming, dance classes with Diversity and plenty of laughter from what we’ve been told.
Time for Hubby to have some annual leave so there was gardening jobs to be done, a visit to Hengistbury Head, which despite the cloud it was still a lovely day out.
In the same week we also all went to Mudeford Quay to go crabbing. It’s been years since we did this, and it was a lot of fun. Very busy along the quay and the tide was quite strong. We only managed to catch and keep one crab that we named Bob. Lots of crabs were brought above the surface but they didn’t want to hang on to holiday in our bucket of water.
We learned a few tips from other people so will go back again to see if we can improve on a different day.
We finished off our Summer holidays with a trip to see Christopher Robin at the cinema. It was a nice way to say goodbye to the Summer and get ready for the Autumn term ahead.
These are just some of our highlights from the Summer holidays this year. We only get 18 summers with our children and I’m glad we got to enjoy time together, and fit in being working parents as well.
There was no holiday abroad for us this Summer as we’re looking forward to another Walt Disney World holiday next Spring.
