When looking for a holiday destination, much of the search revolves around 3 main points; the food, the people, and the beaches. The food must be delicious, the people friendly, and the beaches breathtaking. If this sounds like you, look no further; the place you’re looking for is Italy! With every region completely unique, when choosing an Italian vacation spot for the summer I cannot recommend Sicily highly enough. It checks all three of the above boxes, and will definitely draw you back for a second holiday.
Sicilian food revolves around the sea, and mouth-watering combinations. Not only is the street food out of this world, but sitting down at a restaurant means you’ll be at the table for quite a while. And because Italians in general like to eat, and having a regional type of snack is important, of course Sicily has its own.
If you’re more for savoury bites, try the Arancini; a fried rice ball with meat and tomato sauce filling. If you’ve got a sweet tooth, the Cannolo is for you; a crunchy wafer-like shell that holds the creamiest of creams, often sprinkled with pistachio or another delicious product of this wonderful island.

And while you’re strolling through the many cities all across the island, the Sicilians around you will make your stay even better. Always smiling and positive, Sicilians are known for their great personalities. Not only are they open to sharing, and teaching you all about their beloved home, but because they love food as much as us, they’re extra careful when serving you their typical dishes!
If you’re still not convinced, all you have to do to make up your mind is take a look at Sicily’s beaches. With a striking blue sea, white sandy strips, and a magical reef life, the beaches in Sicily are breathtaking. What’s more, is that to top off your whole Sicilian experience, is that you don’t have to stay in a large holiday resort, but instead relax in your beachfront villa, taking in the sounds of the waves. For example, I would recommend visiting the beautiful East coast of the island, the sea is stunning and it is simple to find a Catania villa rental in which to lay your head at night.
A definite change of pace from a trip to Walt Disney World, but what a way to relax!
