No matter which way around I think about it, I still can’t quite believe I’m going to turn 40 this year. The age doesn’t bother me, it’s just I am still convinced I am around 21 in my head, let alone to be old enough to have a 21 year old daughter.
Most of my late twenties were spent with my girlfriends who all had the same family commitments as me funnily enough. We all found ourselves single at the same time for a few years and we certainly made the most of our time, time perhaps we had missed out on in our late teens.
One particular year we managed to have two amazing holidays, one with the kids and one without to celebrate a 30th birthday to Dublin, I have some great memories from that holiday with plenty of laughs and adventures. It didn’t matter that we were all approaching 30, we still all bunked together in a tiny hostel room so we had more money for partying.
I am still lucky enough to be friends with the same girls all these years later, and we always vowed that we would do something special for our 40th, which for three of us fall within two months of each other. What better excuse does anyone need for a party or holiday!
Obviously over the years we have all settled down and had families that makes life just that little bit more hectic. Finding time to go away with the girls isn’t as easy as it was ten years ago, we all have financial commitments to our families and houses before we are able to afford the luxury of a girls only holiday.
Still a 40th birthday is a special time and we have been setting the plans in motion for a few months now to be able to spend a long weekend away as the weather warms up next spring.
I am definitely the most organised out of the group when it comes to money, however falling in love with holidays to Disney hasn’t helped my budget at all, so we’ve all made a plan to save a little each month to be able to afford to go away next spring. I know I’ll work harder once we know the holiday is booked.
We’re hoping to be able to fly somewhere within a couple of hours, to be able to relax by the pool, eat lots and drink plenty of cocktails. It sounds idyllic doesn’t it! A holiday is definitely a better option for me than a party to celebrate my birthday milestone. How would you / did you celebrate your 40th?
I loved turning 40 and I think I celebrated for the whole of January back in 2014. I covered all bases. Went away to Centerparcs as a family, then the following weekend just me and the husband went away. I also had a fantastic girls night out with a limo and plenty of laughs. Girls holidays are fab though and we try to get away every 18 months or so. Have an ace time celebrating x
