Are you going on holiday and want to take your dog with you? Travelling with your dog in the car requires some additional thought. It is not always easy to keep dogs safe in the car, even if they are good traveling companions.
Whether you are preparing for a short or a long trip, you should take a few necessary precautions.
Fasten Your Pet Dog’s Seat Belt.
Rule 57 of the Highway Code states that dogs must be restrained when in a moving vehicle so they cannot distract or injure you or themselves if you stop quickly.
Just like their owners, dogs should wear their seat belts in cars. The safest way to transport your dog by car is to fasten it with a dog seat belt or use a dog car harness.
The seat belt keeps your pet in a defined space and protects it in the event of an accident. An untethered dog, like a human, is at a higher risk of injury or even fatal injury.

Barriers: Keep Your Dog Out Of Reach
Dogs love to travel in the passenger seat. This is permitted however you must turn the passenger air bag off and push the seat right back to give your dog more room.
But if your dog tends to get restless, anxious, or likely to come on your lap while driving, a barrier may help.
It should be recognised that your dog can distract your attention while you are driving. Depending on the type of vehicle you drive, your dog may be kept in the rear by a unique fence.
Several types of barriers can be installed behind the 4 × 4, sedans or vans. And by installing it, check that your dog cannot sneak in to visit you in the front seat. Alternatively you can purchase many different types of dog crates for cars.
During Long Journeys: Take Breaks
On a long drive, your dog, like everyone else, needs a bite to eat, a drink and to do their business. Always have water available to prevent it from getting dehydrated.
Meals treats and chew toys are good distractions for keeping a dog in the car, as long as your pet is not prone to motion sickness. In any case, make sure to stop every two hours so that your pet dog can do its business.

Heat: Remember To Check The Temperature Inside The Vehicle.
Be sure to assess the temperature inside the vehicle. You may feel mild outside, but it will not necessarily be the case inside the vehicle. Indeed, if the ambient temperature is 24 degrees out, it can climb to 38 degrees in the passenger compartment.
Pet dogs can die inside a car, even if the windows are open or cracked. So never leave your dog locked up alone in a car. Also, leaving your dog in your vehicle is often illegal.
Having adventures with your best friend is one of the joys of having a dog. If you do your best to keep your dog safe, happy, and treat him well, expect many great adventures on the road.

Bring The Right Documents
If you’re travelling with your dog abroad, do not plan a trip without providing the various administrative documents. Many countries do not allow the entry of dogs not vaccinated against this rabies disease on their territory. You will then be given a health card.
