I always used to think that holidays were booked via a travel agent, and you had to accept the price they gave you. When we booked our first holiday to Walt Disney World, we went into the travel agents, chatted at length about what we wanted, listened to advice, and came away after spending a lot of money. The second time we went to Walt Disney World, I priced up a holiday online and then compared with the travel agent as some of the party we were travelling with wanted to book with a travel agent. Our third visit to Walt Disney World has been booked independently and I have learned how to save money booking a holiday.

Booking Direct

There are certain times when booking a holiday, such as booking a holiday to Walt Disney World where it is a lot cheaper to book direct with Disney Holidays if you are planning on staying in a Disney resort. I proved when booking our second holiday after pricing up the holiday online before going to the travel agent, that it was cheaper to do it independently. When the travel agent told me their price couldn’t be beaten, I showed them my printed quote that I had sourced earlier and they agreed to match it. Sometimes it just pays to ask.

Using A Third Party Booking Site

Now I realise this may sound a little contradictory to the previous paragraph, however, it’s always worth comparing via a third party booking site to check out prices, especially if you’re booking an independent hotel. For example, our weekend in Mallorca earlier this year was a lot cheaper by booking via a third party site than it was booking everything separately.

Check For Cashback

Booking any holiday can be expensive, and I have learned that if there is a way to get some cashback by booking a holiday then it all helps towards the spending money. I always check out Topcashback before booking anything just to check if the company is a partner.

Book A Package

It can be a misunderstanding to think that booking an all-inclusive holiday will cost more than half board or self catering. It’s always worth checking out the costs for a package holiday that includes everything even your food and drinks, leaving you nothing to worry about when you’re away. Sometimes it’s even cheaper depending on when you’re travelling.

Book A Last Minute Holiday

You can save money booking a holiday if you’re willing to wait until the last-minute. Often searching for those last-minute deals can provide a bargain. Booking a last-minute deal doesn’t have to mean booking the day before you want to go, it generally means within eight weeks of wanting to go away. This is the optimum time to find a last-minute deal.
