I have been wanting to lose a few pounds for a little while now. I was doing really well last year and was happy with my weight when we went to Disney, but for some reason this year a few extra pounds have been added on and I can’t seem to shift them again.
Slimfast is a brand I am very aware of and have tried their products in the past, however when I was recently made aware of the Slimfast 7 day challenge I was intrigued to try it to see if it would work for me.

What’s In The Box?
The idea behind the Slimfast 7 day meal plan is to provide everything you need for 7 days in terms of snacks and meal replacements. You add an additional 600 calorie meal each day (800 calories for men).
Inside the Slimfast 7 day starter kit box are six meal replacement shakes, two chocolate, two cafe latte and two strawberry. Each shake consists of 206 calories and is designed to be either your breakfast or lunch.
Also included are eight meal replacement bars, four chocolate crunch and four summer berry. These are 210 calories per bar and are designed to replace your lunch meal.
Snacks are also included in the form of four caramel chocolate bars, three chocolate bars, three packets of sour cream and chive pretzels and four packets of cheese bites. These snacks are around 100 calories each and are designed for you to eat as snacks each day.
You also receive a leaflet with information on meal ideas, and snack ideas if you want to add more fruit and veg to your daily diet.

I did question whether I was getting enough fruit and veg in my diet by only eating meals replacement bars and shakes which contain all of your daily dietary requirements in the form of vitamins and minerals but they aren’t actual fruit and veg.
My way around this was to add more veg to my meals but I did find I lacked the fruit as I preferred to eat the savoury snacks instead of a piece of fruit.

How Did I Get On?
I was sensible in my planning and made sure I started my Slimfast 7 day challenge when I wasn’t due to go out for any social events where I would be tempted by buffets or alcohol.
I don’t see this as cheating because I wanted to give myself the best possible start and then be able to work out what I could swap for what should I continue past the seven days.
Day 1 – I enjoyed my shake in the morning and I didn’t feel as though I was missing out on eating any food. Making sure I had water by my side, I found that by around 11am I was hungry so I opted for a packet of savoury cheese snacks.
Lunch for me was a summer berry meal replacement bar as I had enjoyed the chocolate shake for breakfast I didn’t want chocolate overload, and I don’t have a massively sweet tooth.
By mid afternoon I was getting hungry, and I had a chocolate crunch bar, which helped me stave off hunger pangs until I enjoyed my dinner of homemade steak pie with potatoes instead of pastry.
I had another snack in the evening which was a packet of sour cream and chive pretzels. At then end of day 1 I was feeling quite positive. Water really does help when I have hunger pangs.
Day 2 – I started the day with another shake, a caramel bar for a mid morning snack, chocolate meal replacement bar for lunch, pretzels for my mid afternoon snack and a homemade lasagne with plenty of vegetables for dinner. My evening snack was a chocolate crunch bar.
After day 2 I was beginning to notice I was very hungry, and my mood was becoming slightly irritable which was noticed by Hubby. I was determined to persevere though and decided to mix up the day on day three by eating my meal for lunch instead of an evening meal.
Day 3 – After my shake for breakfast, I didn’t have my midmorning snack as we had an averagely early roast dinner for lunch. I was stuffed after this, and two snacks in the afternoon whilst visiting family helped me resist the cakes that were brought out.
My meal replacement bar in the evening and a packet of savoury snacks was enough for me to go to bed without being too hungry.
After day 3 I noticed I was getting a couple of spots, which I put down to my body clearing out any toxins that may have been there before starting the Slimfast 7 day challenge. I was still slightly irritable however.
Day 4 – I am still enjoying the shakes for breakfast and not eating any actual food isn’t bothering me. I guess I could have had a meal replacement bar for breakfast instead but I like to chew something when I am hungry and for me that time of day is lunch time.
I am missing fruit at this point, but there is always plenty of vegetables in my evening meal. I think I prefer having my meal in the evening as that helps me go through the evening, but for me I don’t seem to need the snack in the evening, however I prefer having two of my snacks in the afternoon instead.

Day 5 – I am still hungry which is a shame, but I have taken a big cut in my daily calorie intake and I am still exercising. Water really helps, but I am finding myself craving savoury foods that I shouldn’t be having, and I would love a glass of wine.
Day 6 – Today I decided to swap my evening snack for a glass of wine and that really lifted my spirits. There is nothing wrong with swapping snacks for treats as long as it’s done within the calorie controlled way of the diet.
I made sure I piled my dinner with plenty of extra veg to fill me up as I was missing the additional snack. However I have found that as I don’t have such a sweet tooth, I would have preferred more savoury snacks rather than chocolate ones, and I gobbled all my savoury snacks at the beginning of the week so I’m left with the chocolate ones now.
Day 7 – The final day of the plan. Today breakfast and lunch are meal replacement bars as all my shakes have gone. This was a change around and I actually found the day to be a lot better. I didn’t think I was missing out on anything by having a shake in the mornings but maybe I was because I wasn’t nearly as hungry today.

Does Slimfast work? At the end of the plan, I weighed myself to see how I got on. I did weigh myself at the beginning of day one, and the results were two pounds off. I was happy with that as a kick start to my healthy eating regime.
I cannot fault the taste of any of the products included in the Slimfast 7 day challenge pack, every single one is very tasty and I can see me purchasing the savoury snacks as individual packets for me to enjoy instead of reaching for a packet of crisps, so there are some great tweaks to be had I think with Slimfast products.
As I don’t have such a sweet tooth, I did find the range of sweet to savoury in the starter pack to be a little overwhelming, however I know a lot of people struggle not being able to have chocolate when they’re on a diet, so if you do have a sweet tooth then you will enjoy this starter pack.
Overall, if you are looking for a calorie controlled diet to control your weight loss then the Slimfast 7 day challenge starter pack is definitely worth a go. The price of the starter pack compared to buying the products individually is a great saving to make sure you have everything you need in front of you for the week.

Dieting seems like a lifelong battle, isn’t it? My weight also goes up and down which is ridiculous. Have not tried any shakes or diet plans yet but I’m considering… at the moment, I’m just counting my daily calorie intake, avoiding desserts and sugary drinks, it helped a bit though. Great review! Thanks for sharing! #TriedTested
it’s worth a go to see if it works for you. Thanks for popping over
I have never tried Slimfast, but I know a lot of people swear by it, and I have a few baby pounds to shift! Thanks for linking up with #TriedTested
I do think it should be tried. Not every diet suits everyone, but this is a very easy option that laid out clearly for you.
A friend of mine had great success losing 2 dress sizes doing slimfast (as well as her husband doing it alongside and losing a good amount of weight too).
I don’t mind shakes but I prefer one of the supermarket’s own brands. I like the bars though for something to chew. But for shakes in the morning I have to hold off breakfast until 8.30-9 in order to get through to lunch. What I like about slimfast is that you do get a normal meal and can eat fruit/veg snacks too. Make it a bit more like a normal diet while still keeping the portion sizing easy. #triedtested
that’s good to hear positive results from people.
When I had my son back in December 1980 I had put on a lot of weight later in 1981 I tried Slimfast and walked each day. After a few month I was up to 6 miles a day walking and the more I walked and did my Slimfast the more weight I lost . I had lost 80 lbs and went from a size 18 to size 6. I was amazed. The weight stayed off for a very long time. As I have gotten older I have put on some extra pounds, so I have stared the SlimFast diet again to get the extra pounds off. It does work and with every diet no matter what diet it is it takes will power and you have to push yourself to do it. Never lose faith in yourself.
that’s an amazing and very inspirational story, well done.

Small steps Maxine, thanks for commenting. Perhaps a simple calorie counting exercise and plenty of walking to start with.
