There is something amazing about Winter that I love. The cold weather, wrapping up warm and spending time together as a family doing activities that often aren’t done during other seasons of the year. Here are my favourite Winter activities for families.
We have an outdoor ice skating rink near us that opens in November through till January. It has become a bit of a Christmas Eve tradition to book tickets for the outdoor ice rink. We spend a chilly afternoon outside before home in time for dinner and a Christmas film. Hubby is really into his ice skating and is very good at it, so I often leave him to it to make sure Abby is safe on the ice. She can hold her own though which is quite impressive, unlike me who can be found hovering near the edge holding on to anything solid.
I love a good Panto, and we have some brilliant performances near us. We went last year to see Cinderella because Abby was really excited that Dani Harmer (Tracy Beaker) was playing Cinderella. This year we have the option of Jack and The Beanstalk, one we have seen in the past, but I think we may go between Christmas and New Year this time for a change.
There are so many amazing Christmas markets around whatever town you live in. I love the smells and the atmosphere as we wander through the stalls. I’ve never been without children as of yet, so there isn’t any stopping in the bars for drinks for us, but looking at the lights and soaking up the atmosphere is just as much fun with the family.
Coming away from the Christmas theme a little bit, we enjoy visiting our local indoor ski centre to whizz down the slops on the rings or the ski bob sledges. I prefer the rings personally, and a nice hot chocolate in the bar afterwards.
Who said the beach has to be just for Summer? We love getting out and about to our local beaches in the Winter. They are so much quieter in the Winter months, and it often means we can take Lola with us as well which is a bonus.
