Having a Birthday very close to Christmas has a few disadvantages as you get older, such as not being able to just pop to your favourite restaurant for a meal without having the Festive Menu shoved in your face. No-one has any spare money to go out and celebrate so often I opt for staying in and having a takeaway.
It has taken me a few years to see some of the benefits with celebrating everything so closely together, but as I have gotten older, I have realised that you can celebrate any day and it can still be special.
There is one really great thing about my birthday being very close to Christmas however, and that is getting bargains by using my Birthday money and shopping after the big day. I am learning very quickly to browse before the sales start and remembering the prices so I can check out any discounts when everyone starts their sales.
Browsing is sometimes better done in person, especially if I want to shop for clothes, as I can try on in the shop without worrying about the hassle of returning items that don’t fit, but the actual shopping is usually done online so I don’t have to battle with the crowds and cold weather.
As I’m a big fan of Disney, then I can usually be found browsing the Disney Store website as soon as Boxing Day begins. It’s even better when I spot voucher codes meaning I can get more for my money.
I usually class purchases from The Disney Store to be a luxury and it’s not something I can convince myself to spend a lot on. I also know that I need to spend any money gifts quickly after receiving them to avoid them being spent on something “needed” for the home, so I never have any trouble finding something I want.
Do you have a family Birthday that’s close to Christmas? If so how do you approach the celebrations?
