There’s something about reaching Friday, realising its the weekend and thinking about getting a takeaway for dinner. If you’re attempting to eat healthier like I am at the moment, then getting a takeaway can prove to be challenging, however you can enjoy a takeaway Slimming World style just by tweaking your menu a little bit and cooking at home instead.
We would usually order a set menu which would include spring rolls, so a baked alternative such as Chicken and Vegetable baked spring rolls are a good idea. There is always a curry on the menu, and this may be chicken or beef. I like to mix it up a little sometimes and have both, but my Chicken and Vegetable Curry is a lot healthier than a takeaway version. No curry is complete without some Egg fried Rice is it.
Miss A loves noodles, and she would happily eat a whole portion to herself. Ginger Chicken with Mushrooms and Noodles are very quick and easy to cook and so much better for you than a portion from the takeaway. Or perhaps if you like things a little spicier, the some Chicken Singapore Noodles.
Hubby’s favourite takeaway is either Indian, or going to the local chicken shop. Either isn’t as healthy as I would like but you can make a lovely Syn Free KFC Style Chicken or a Chicken Tikka Masala quite easily at home.
There are times when we crave a pizza so instead of using the standard pizza bases, we have become quite creative and have been using a pieces of meat as the pizza base and loading it with toppings. My Gammon Steak Pizza has become a hit in our home, and I also make one with a chicken breast as the base as well sometimes. If you add some cajun spices to the chicken breast, the flavours are intensified even more.
Don’t go to the burger shop, make your own bunless burgers such as Pork Burgers with Red Onion & Garlic that are just as filling and so much healthier. You can serve with sweet potato wedges to fill you up.
If Mexican is your thing then how about a different take on making fajitas such as Oven Roasted Butternut Squash Fajitas.
