I’m not sure where my little girl went, but all of a sudden she looks so grown up in her school uniform. It’s amazing what a white shirt and a pair of trousers can do isn’t it to make a child look so grown up. Saying that Miss A is quite happy to go to school with her shirt un tucked which turns into a daily battle between us so I can at least send her into school looking smart. What she does when she is out of my sight I have no control over, and I didn’t think we would have reached this level at the age of nine, but here we are.
We have been putting some new uniform through its paces from Trutex recently, a brand that I have heard a lot about over the last few years during Miss A’s school lifetime. I’m the first to admit that when it comes to uniform shopping it doesn’t fill me with joy, and I have bought some brilliant items of uniform and also some very poor quality items over the years. To find a brand you trust is quite important I think and Trutex have been doing a good job at impressing me as a parent so far.
After purchasing poor quality grey trousers that lose their seams around the zip after a couple of months, or still look messy after ironing the pleats on a skirt, I was so please with the trousers and skirt that we were sent for review from Trutex. More importantly, Miss A approved of the style and that’s half the battle when you’re dealing with a pre teen going to school. If she doesn’t like the style then she won’t wear it, and there’s not a lot of point in having daily arguments about a necessary piece of clothing. I’ll save my battles for other arguments.
I wasn’t sure Miss A would go for a pleated skirt but she chose this from the website herself as well as the trousers pictured below. Personally out of the two the trousers are my favourite as the material is very soft a flowing, yet they wash really well and the elasticated waist line is strong enough for Miss A’s small waist.
The skirt doesn’t need ironing which is an amazing plus point for me as a parent as I really don’t enjoy that task.
A school shirt is much of a muchness when choosing from any retailer in terms of style, but I am swayed instantly by the promises of not having to iron, and when they hold a shape for girls it’s much more appealing for Miss A than having a shirt that looks very unisex. I don’t remember worrying about this when I was her age.
She does find the collar quite tight with the top button done up (and this usually has to be with wearing a tie), but as it’s been washed and worn, the collar has been loosening up slightly so the moans are less. There’s not a lot anyone can do about this though is there!
When choosing our uniform choices from Trutex, I was impressed at the choices available. We even managed to choose some tracksuit bottoms, polo shirts, and if your uniform requires, there is also a choice of hoodies and fleece jackets.
