Who needs a night out when you can have a great night in with the family. Often we will decide to have a takeaway when we all stay in together, so when we were challenged to have a “big night in” on £50, I decided to have a go at cooking our own takeaway from home and hopefully learning a new skill as well as making the food healthier whilst enjoying all the taste.
I came in just under budget at £47.52 and managed to buy all the ingredients for our big night in. I also have enough spices and oile left over to make many more chinese meals as well.
We also squeezed our budget to buy the card game Uno which is a game we had all been talking about playing for quite some time, and there was even enough left over to have wine and beer for the grown ups and fizzy soft drink for 6yo.
I started the day by making slow cooker bbq ribs, which I wasn’t sure of when I made up the marinade, but when they arrived on my plate in the evening, they were gorgeous.
I also had a go at making some mini spring rolls, only I did this in a rush and they ended up being very large spring rolls. Still they were tasty and I know to spend more time on them in the future.
Our chinese feast consisted of
- prawn noodle spring rolls
- bbq spare ribs
- sweet and sour pork
- prawn chown mein
- prawn crackers
- boiled rice.
Yummy, 6yo enjoyed her ribs
After all of that did we have room for dessert?
Of course we did!
Time for a little rest by playing Uno. We all actually won a game each which was nice.
Thank you Money Supermarket for providing us with £50 to have a Big night In.
