National Vegetarian week runs from 18th – 24th May, so we’ve been enjoying some vegetarian meals from Amy’s Kitchen.
None of the family are solely vegetarian, however I do like to cook vegetarian meals on occasion for both the money saving and health benefits as I find I put more raw ingredients into vegetarian meals than I do when I cook with meat.
In 2010, Amy’s Kitchen was brought to the UK where they have a factory producing the products for sale the same as they do in America.
We have been trying a selection of the new range of frozen ready meals including Chinese vegetable noodles which are gluten and dairy free.
Noodles and vegetables in a creamy cashew sauce was ready from the freezer to a plate in five minutes. The portion sizes are great for children, fine for me, but Hubby found it to be a little small for him. What we thought we could do was cook some extra vegetables and serve on the plate.
The Thai red curry was a hit with everyone. The portion size on this got no complaints and we all wanted some of it. I have never tried a flavour in the sauce like the one in this meal. It’s tangy, sweet and lasting on your taste buds which made for a lovely meal. Tofu, vegetables and rice are included in this gluten and dairy free meal which filled me up.
I was excited to try the Mexican burritos. No-one else in the house decided they wanted to try these, so my lunches were sorted for a few days. Two varieties included are cheddar, rice and beans, or just rice and beans. Both are gluten free. I preferred the cheese variety, although the taste was slightly more salty than the burrito without the cheese. These are a perfect lunch idea to serve with salad.
All the ingredients in Amy’s Kitchen meals are naturally grown, everything is vegetarian, cheese are made with pasteurised milk and don’t contain animal enzymes or rennet.
I hadn’t come across the brand before trying these meals, however I am pleased to see they are stocked in a good variety of places such as Asda, Morrisons, Ocado, Sainsburys and Tesco so I will be looking out for them on my shopping trips in future.
Disclosure – we received the meals free of charge but all opinions are our own
