During the summer, we were lucky enough to win a competition for taking a photo of 6yo rolling down a hill as part of the National Trust’s 50 things before you’re 11 3/4 campaign.
6yo received a goody bag that contained a lot of great things to help her complete her 50 things. This bug hunting kit was included, so yesterday we took advantage of the warm weather and got out in the garden after school to see what we could find.
We started by searching by digging some earth, and looking under rocks.
Of course the first thing we came across had to be a spider didn’t it! I hate spiders! Yet I still got volunteered to transfer it from it’s web into the tongs, and then into the pot *shudder*
Once inside the magnified pot, 6yo loved looking through the lens to see the spider up close. I didn’t want to have a look thanks, but we did measure it.
Next it was onto slugs!
6yo used her paint brush to gently encourage the slimy slugs into her pot so she could look at them up close.
There’s plenty of other bug ideas that we didn’t come across yesterday, but I’m sure we’ll be back out in the garden soon hunting for more.
