Who doesn’t love cake? When we were asked if we wanted to try Baker Days Letter Box Cakes, I really couldn’t refuse!
Baker Days create a range of cakes that are small enough to fit through the letter box and for a wide range of occasions. Cakes start from £14.99 for a letter box size Victoria sponge flavour, but you can add on additional flavours such as carrot cake (which we received), chocolate, fruit, or gluten free for an additional charge. You can also purchase large cakes and cupcakes. Lots to choose from!
There are many different designs from pre designed ones, through to photo cakes, and you can even upload a child’s drawing to put on a cake, which I thought was a great idea.
My cake fell through the letter box the other day, and I actually forgot it was coming that day so it was a nice surprise when I opened the box. I could smell cake before I’d even got into the box so I was wondering what was inside my parcel.
Packaged in a lovely tin and a small packet of love heart sweets, the cake is presented really well.
The cake inside was packaged well with clear instructions on how to remove from the tin without damaging. I almost couldn’t wait to test out the cake, but as I had personalised it for my Mum from me, I thought it would be rude not to wait until she arrived.
My initial thoughts on the design were good, the writing is clear on the icing, and the pattern was very pretty and done well. The cake actually looked bigger than I was expecting. Bear in mind it’s only thick enough to be able to fit through the letter box, so you aren’t going to get a really chunky cake. But you also want value for money when paying £14.99. Due to the packaging, design and taste of the cake, along with the freshness, I do think you are getting value for money. It may not last long as once you open it, even this cake at 4-5 servings didn’t last us long (oops), it creates a lovely reaction from the receiver, just like flowers would for the same or even more money.
I was hesitant about the freshness of the cake as it was travelling through the post etc. As it was secured in a tin there was no worry of it being squashed.
I found the layer of icing to be quite thick on the cake, and if you’re not a fan of fondant icing then you may find this too much in proportion to cake that there is.
The cake itself was flavoursome and moist. Very moreish in it’s own way.
My Mum was very pleased, thanks BakerDays.
We received a cake for the purposes of this review, but all opinions are my own
