Yesterday we left the older one to have a party at home for her 18th, so we took 5yo out for dinner. It was still too early to come home, so we decided to take her bowling. She’s never been before and she has been hassling us to go for a while, so we popped across the road to the bowling alley to see if there were lanes free. It was surprisingly quiet for a Saturday night, so we paid for one game. (It’s been a long time since I’ve been bowling and things have changed quite a lot, including the cost).
I was surprised but pleased to see we could wear our own shoes instead of having to wear the shared sweaty ones provided by the alley.
Once we got to our lane, I did make hubby go back and ask about the bumpers as i could see lots of tears if all 5yo’s balls went into the gutter. I was surprised to see this would happen automatically for her, so that was something else new.
We picked the lightest ball possible and used the guide, and apart from a sore finger when she dropped the ball onto her little finger when lifting it off the rack, she was really good, and we had good behaviour all evening.
She was also the first out of all of us to get a strike on her third bowl, so we were really chuffed for her. She didn’t manage it again, but it was still a good achievement.
