I’ve always loved reading since I was a child. My reading tastes as an adult have changed over time. Once upon a time I would only read chick lit books. Then I went through a stage of Stephen King before going moving back to chick lit books again. Whilst I still enjoy the chick lit genre when I want an easy read, I do enjoy psychological thrillers now. They’re even better if the twist has me guessing right up until the end of the book. This year I read quite a few books and have started tracking them via Goodreads, so I have set myself up some 2017 book reading goals to see me through next year.
I am a fast reader if a book grabs my attention and I have the time to sit and read. I am more likely to take my Kindle out and about with me to read in short bursts where I have time such as when waiting for Miss A to come out of school for example. Going by my Goodreads book tally for 2016 I have set myself the goal of reading 70 books in 2017. This equates to 1.5 books per week which I think is completely doable for me. A book on average takes me two days to read, sometimes in a day if it’s a great book like Behind Closed Doors that I read recently. Other books can take me up to a week if I am struggling with the plot lines or am just a little burned out from reading so much.
Overall however I do think my goal of 70 is achievable and I am excited to see how I get on. I received some books for Christmas so this will start me off, and I also use Netgalley to read advanced copies in return for a review which keeps me in a big supply of books. I love discovering new authors and have read some brilliant books that I have also reviewed on my blog such as The Loving Husband, The Couple Next Door, No Turning Back, and The Family Man.
I will be reviewing some individual books on the blog through 2017, and will also provide a monthly update to keep me on track with what I’ve been reading and how I’m getting on with the challenge.
