How To Make A Blackboard

How To Make A Blackboard - The Life Of Spicers

My kitchen is quite small, with a useless space at the back between the fridge freezer and the oven opening. We used to have a notice board in that space, but it would get knocked with the fridge door being opened.

I have been toying with the idea of making a blackboard area on that wall for a little while so this weekend I went off to the DIY shop to buy my supplies.

I really wanted the paint version, but only the spray can is sold in a certain large DIY shop, so spray can it has to be. I started by preparing the wall, washing it to make it free from dust and dirt.

The next step was to mark out how big I wanted it as I wasn’t having the whole wall blackboard style. I drew on the wall in pencil and then used masking tape to mark my lines. I used two rows of masking tape, but soon learnt that the spray will travel that little bit further in the air, so I would reccomend four strips thick of tape to keep the remaining wall clean. I wasn’t too worried as the wall is due for a touch up, so I will tackle this task next.

The spray is really easy to use, but make sure you have plenty of ventilation as the fumes were quite strong. It’s a good idea to keep children and animals out of the way.

It didn’t take long to cover this area in my kitchen, but I did find I needed a couple of coats to get even coverage.

I’m glad I’ve taken the time to spruce up an unused and unloved space in my kitchen. I plan on using it for meal planning and shopping lists.

This is so great when there is no border on the side to knock down by the oven door! Also no more nails!

That’s a very clever idea and a great way to keep reminders or lists for the whole family to see.

I have thought about doing this and never got round to it. Might have to be something I think about again as it could be very useful!
