I am an avid reader, and Miss A has also followed my love of books from a very young age. We spent every bedtime reading to her from when she was a baby. Even now she asks us to read to her some evenings. She has developed a love for authors such as Jacqueline Wilson, and was recently very excited that the library at her school had the newest book she could borrow. That was read over the weekend and she went back to see what else she could borrow.
Books always feature heavily on our Christmas present lists, and in fact I already have a pile that I have been collecting over the last few months. With the lovely delivery from Penguin books, Miss A’s book pile will be even bigger on Christmas morning. She is going to be very excited about the newest Diary of A Wimpy Kid in particular as she has been asking for it since she knew it was being released.
The one thing I love about Miss A’s attitude to reading is that she will pick up any book by any author and read the blurb. If it interests her then she will read the book and perhaps go on to seek out more by that author. She’s not too controlled by the front covers which is a blessing, as I have found that so many books that are well written don’t necessarily have the inviting covers to draw the reader in.
Enid Blyton featured heavily as an author when I was growing up and I remember making my way through the Famous Five series, then onto the Secret Seven. Miss A was lucky enough to be able to read the whole series of Famous Five with her Dad as he had kept his entire collection from his childhood. The series is such a classic that we all enjoyed reading them together a second time.
