We love curry in our house, and I’ll often make my own, but when we need curry in a hurry, I will use pre made sauces. Just Ingredients asked if we would like to try a range of their curry sauces, and I was excited to see the variations we received.
Hubby likes a Korma, 19yo likes Tikka Masala, and I am happy to try anything as long as it doesn’t blow my taste buds apart. The first one we tried was the Saffron and Rose Korma. The ingredients intrigued me and I was looking forward to seeing how this tasted compared to our usual Korma sauce. Just Ingredients have taken the traditional Indian classics and infused with new flavours.
Colour wise, it is a lot darker than I would have expected to find from a Korma, and I did find myself picking out raisins from the sauce during cooking. I always check the ingredients list for raisins, as they are one ingredient I really don’t like in a curry. They weren’t listed but I definitely picked a big handful out!
Taste wise, the Korma had a 2 chilli rating which I found quite spicy, but managed to eat. The flavours are very intense, but very tasty. I wouldn’t have known it was based on a Korma if I hadn’t read the packet beforehand.
The Tikka Masala was the next variety we tried. This looked a lot more authentic and tasted a little milder than the Korma did in my opinion. The colours were vibrant and inviting against the rice we served it with. There was a slight fruity taste to the Tikka which was nice.
My favourite was the Coconut and Orange Goan curry. I have never tried a Goan curry before which is a popular seafood curry from Goa with Portuguese influences. The flavours were strong, and the added coconut milk help tone down the spiciness of the curry which I think the family appreciated after the Korma.
Each curry from Just Ingredients comes in a 400g pouch which serves 3-4 people. I think you could stretch this by adding some water to rinse out the pouch with as well. Each pouch is £4.20 which makes it slightly more than I would normally pay for a curry sauce, but the uniqueness in flavours makes them very attractive.
What’s your favourite curry?
Disclosure – we received the curry pouches free of charge but all opinions are our own
