Generally my choice of drink is white wine, although I am partial to lager on a hot Summer’s day in the beer garden of a local pub. Ale isn’t a drink that I have a lot of experience in, so when I was asked if I wanted to try a craft beer selection, I was excited to say yes and try something new.
I was sent a selection of 8 different beers, a snack and magazine surrounding the theme Oop North. This subscription pack retails for £24 per month and each month has a different selection of craft beers selected by the team depending on the style of the month.
I chose Moor Top as my first beer of choice. Without reading anything about the beer, I did a blind tasting test. The first thing that struck me was the bitter after taste of the beer. Upon reading the back of the bottle, it did indeed tell me that there would be a bitter after taste with this beer due to the grapefruit included in the ingredients.
I wasn’t sure I was going to enjoy the taste, but actually I really did. After this I was eager to try the rest of the selection. Each different beer is selected from a different brewery which is explained in the magazine. You can learn a lot more about where the beer is brewed (in this case from the North of England hence the box title Oop North).
Beer52 is a subscription service where you sign up to a monthly plan. Beer selections are sent every four weeks, however you can pause or cancel your subscription at any time. I love the idea of Beer52 as it’s introduced me to new and different beers that I would never have tried otherwise. I didn’t even know I was going to enjoy beer. I think the boxes make a lovely gift idea and the flexibility of the subscription service is a bonus.
If you would like to try Beer52, you can use SPICERS10 which will give you £10 if you sign up to receive a Beer52 box.
Disclosure – we received the beer free of charge but all opinions are our own
