We do love eating out as a family, it’s lovely not to have to cook and do the washing up, so when we were invited along to our local Beefeater restaurant, we were excited to try out their new Beefeater Autumn menu.
We have a few Beefeater restaurants locally to us, but we chose a larger restaurant in Christchurch, Dorset. Visiting on a busy Friday evening, we started the weekend off well.
Whilst Miss A and Hubby chose the prawn cocktail which was an enormous portion containing the biggest prawns I have seen in a prawn cocktail dish, I opted for the chicken pate which came presented on a board with the pate in a little jar which was a great touch. There was plenty of bread but I was able to ask for more if I ran out. I did want to make room for our meals though so what was on my board was more than plenty. The starters were priced between £4-6 each.
I was determined to choose something without chips for my dinner today as I wanted to try the dessert menu and chips will always fill me up and I struggle with the dessert. As soon as I spied the lamb dish which was served with dauphinoise potatoes, kale, cherry tomatoes and a red wine gravy, I knew this was the meal for me today. It was presented very well on the plate and whilst it didn’t look a lot for the price tag of £14.99, it was cooked to my liking and was plenty of food to satisfy my appetite.
Hubby opted for a mixed grill, and couldn’t choose between the choice of chips that come with the meal. The flavours are plain, spicy or their new chilli and lime, and as the chips are bottomless, he opted for plain with his dinner and we shared a portion of chilli and lime to see what they were like. The flavour is quite subtle and you get a tangy after taste rather than the chilli being too strong. I will definitely choose these next time we eat in a Beefeater.
Miss A chose the create your own pizza which comes with garlic bread but she was able to change her sides for other choices. It just so happens she likes garlic bread so chose that. It was a generous sized pizza for one person and she almost struggled to finish it all. I do think that had a lot to do with the adult sized prawn cocktail she ate though.
Did we have room for dessert? Of course we did! Well Miss A and myself did, I think Hubby ate too much with his very large mixed grill meal.
I opted for a sundae and Miss A was recommended the funny face ice cream concoction which she enjoyed. She was able to make her own cone with sweets and ice cream.
My sundae was also a very generous size and by the end of it I was very full up!
The Somerford is a very warm and inviting restaurant. It covers a large space, but we were seated in the booth area which made us feel as though we were almost alone when waiting our meal. All the staff were very attentive to us and the customers around us, we felt very welcomed eating there.
I can’t fault anything with the service or the food, everything was cooked well and the portions were more than generous. We did overhear a couple near us comment on the prices of the meals which are slightly more than your average chain restaurant prices, but the quality and the sizes do match the prices well.
Disclosure – we received a voucher towards our meal but all opinions are our own
